Driving Directions:
Trailhead is on Great Hill Road, in Tamworth, NH. From the junction of Rt. 113 and Rt. 113A in the center of Tamworth, take Main Street for 0.2 miles and turn right onto Great Hill Road. Drive 2.5 miles to a kiosk on the right, where Great Hill Road turns left and Hemenway Road continues straight. Park near the kiosk.

About the Hike:
The inactive Great Hill fire tower, built in 1934, provides a wonderful view for very little effort. Hiking to it involves only half a mile of easy climbing on old dirt roads. From the kiosk, walk 0.2 miles up the wide dirt road (a mailbox on the left side provides pamphlets with the tower's history), then turn left onto another road and follow it 0.3 miles to the tower, passing a cabin on the way. The tower cab is maintained for viewing and has a view guide for all four sides. The view over the trees extends south to the Squam and Osipee Ranges in the Lakes Region and east to the northeastern Lakes Region. To the north and east is a very fine view of the Sandwich Range.
