About the Hike:
Little Monadnock Mountain, one of the many destinations on the Metacomet-Monadnock Trail, is located in Rhododendron State Park and features a good view of Mt. Monadnock. The hike begins on the Rhododendron Loop Trail. From the parking area, walk down the right fork of Rhododendron Loop for 0.2 miles. In 0.2 miles, turn right onto Little Monadnock Trail. It winds through the forest over mostly flat terrain, past some recent logging cuts. It begins to climb at a large rock scramble. The climb is short, but surprisingly steep. At the end of the trail is a thin, restricted view of Mt. Monadnock at a trail junction with the Metacomet-Monadnock Trail. The sign indicates the summit is 0.1 miles away to the left, but it is actually 0.3. You can visit the summit if you wish, but it is almost viewless. The best view is 0.2 miles down the M-M the other direction (to the right). It is an area known as "North Meadows", and provides a much wider view to the north, from Mt. Monadnock to Vermont.
